Designing a future remote control for lean back IPTV consumption

Conceptually designing and high-end prototyping of a novel IPTV user interface.
Prior to the introduction of the iPhone, we were asked to design an innovative, lean-back approach to Internet Protocol television (IPTV). The goal was to build an experienceable vision.
Approach

We suggested a button-free remote control (“The Brick”), which would have two states: lean-back (just channel-hopping) and lean-forward (set-up and other complex tasks).

Result

Our fully working prototype was displayed in the T-Gallery (at Telekom HQ) for more than two years and helped to shape Telekom’s service offering and product line for this market.
