Hello, I am
Nina Valkanova

Design Lead Connected Living
Do what you love, love what you do.

As an interaction designer and researcher, Nina has more than 15 years of experience in industrial, academic, and experimental settings such as the Fraunhofer Institute for Computer Graphics, Ars Electronica Future Lab, Telekom Innovation, and Copenhagen Institute of Interaction Design. Nina has been involved in cutting-edge projects in the field of multimodal interface design, VR and Mixed Reality, and the Internet of Things.

Nina is passionate about exploring novel and meaningful opportunities at the intersection of people-centered design, ubiquitous computing and social, situated interactions in our everyday lives. Driven by this passion she has been developing interactive experiences and user studies in relevant domains including sustainability, smart education, well-being, and public participation.

Nina holds a PhD in Interaction Design and a Master’s degree in Mathematics and Computer Science. Before joining IXDS, Nina worked as a project lead at the Copenhagen Institute of Interaction Design, where she led design-driven activities within the company’s research unit.

In her (some of her!) free time, Nina loves to explore ideas as a media artist and has exhibited at venues such as Interactivos? and Visualizar (ES), Ars Electronica Festival (AT), Agosto Digital (AR) and Viva Cidade (BR). Last year, with fellow friends and enthusiasts from Berlin, she started the initiative Creative Coding School, which aims to engage refugees and other socially disadvantaged people in learning how to create digital products in a playful and creative way.
