Pre-Work Talk Munich Human-robot relations

Munich
IXDS Munich Ganghoferstraße 68b, 80339 München
Robots and humans, can we all just get along? The world’s nerdiest fight between tech billionaires Elon Musk and Mark Zuckerberg on the potential risk robots and AI pose to the existence of civilization, brought many issues surrounding this topic back into the limelight. And while the public Twitter tiff was entertaining, we weren’t left with too much statistical substance. So this Munich Pre-Work Talk on August 24, we’re going to take a closer look at the latest research and insights from experts across various fields, for a more informed debate around our (not too distant) future co-existence.

As many are fearing the rise of a “useless class” of unemployable people in the coming years, our first speaker Ivan Jimenez, Visiting Researcher at the Institute for Computational Design and Construction (ICD), will shed light on just how and where jobs are set to be most affected. His German Chancellor Fellowship research into how the robot revolution is transforming major industries has seen him collaborating with the likes of the German Chancellor herself, as well as German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier, and the World Economic Forum.

We’ll then be getting more emotional, with a presentation from Senior User Experience Designer Jan Korsanke, on empathy and trust between man and machine. He’ll talk about the role designers play, and what we can do now to enable better collaboration in the long run.

Are you concerned that humans will become second-class citizens in a future dominated by AI? Come and get some new perspectives, and contemplate our fate over a casual morning coffee on Thursday, August 24!

IVAN JIMENEZ, GERMAN CHANCELLOR RESEARCH FELLOW

Ivan is a visiting researcher at the Institute for Computational Design and Construction, where he joins the Institute as a 2016/2017 German Chancellor’s Fellow of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation. His research looks into advanced fabrication processes with a focus on robotics in Architecture and building at a large scale.
Prior to joining the ICD, Ivan worked at a Design-Build Collaborative, where he acted as the project manager for several high-end residential projects. He is also Co-Founder of Aora.Space, which connects local start-ups to institutions and citizens worldwide.

JAN KORSANKE, SENIOR UX DESIGNER, EXB

Jan is a Senior UX Architect from Munich, working at ExB Research and Development. His passions lie in turning human needs into concepts, and exploring what design and technology can do for humanity. Currently, he’s focusing on UX for a Machine Learning/Artificial intelligence platform based on NLP. He also recently collaborated with organizations such as Allianz, BMW, FriendScout24, Telefónica, W. L. Gore & Associates to name a few, and frequently gives talks on different UX and design topics such as creativity, processes, and tools.
